Amber Spine Caudex

This short caudiciform grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The wispy stem is yellow, and is covered in handfuls of flexible amber spines. The straight, brilliant orange trunk can grow to as much as 1 foot (30.5 cm) in diameter at the bottom. Its red branches are short stubs and start growing a quarter of the way up the stem.

The copious amounts of rounded-edged, thick leaves are solid light grey with silver edges. They are rigid, and do not detach easily.

It is quick growing, taking 2 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with alternating petals of subtle yellow and magenta, with a hazel central disk grows at the top, reappearing once every 3 years. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 41 curved petals. It has a weak scent that smells like glue.

The caudiciform's skin is extremely thick, the cream flesh is waxy, and the grey sap is thin.
