Clinging Mahogany

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 53 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in fine, rough, dark gray bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are very short and thick and are covered with sparse amounts of large, thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are cyan at the bottom and turquoise with red lines at the top.

In early spring, it produces a handful of large, black blossoms with finger-like petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like vomit.

In early autumn it produces small, spear-shaped fruit. The soft brilliant green skin is thin and edible when boiled; it is salty, and the crunchy azure flesh is bitter and juicy. The bronze seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
