Twistvine Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 39 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, crooked trunk covered in thick, cracked, yellow bark, and inside, the soft wood is pale brown.

The tangled mess of branches are short stubs and are covered with copious amounts of small, thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid orange or white, with blood red streaks.

In early spring, it produces many small, lilac blossoms with perforated petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like burning wood.

In early summer it produces tiny, perforated fruit. The rubbery slate skin is thin and inedible, and the very soft light grey flesh is sweet and very juicy. The silver seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.

It is frequently struck by lightning.
It coexists peacefully with other plants.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
