Serpent Vine

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a wide, wavy trunk covered in delicate, ridged, brown and grey bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is burgundy.

The small handful of branches are short stubs and are covered with sparse amounts of giant, wispy leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are either olive or azure, with white dots.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of giant, slate blossoms with circular petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like freshly baked bread.

In early summer it produces tiny, triangular fruit. The rubbery slate skin is peel-able and inedible, and the slightly crunchy light grey flesh is sweet and dry. The dark grey seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
