Twining Lilacvine
Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)This modest-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for around 84 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has numerous flexible, straight stems covered in ridged, light gray bark, and the wood inside is white.
The branches trail down towards the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with small amounts of giant, perforated, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are generally lilac, light and soft.
In late summer it produces clusters of large, grey blossoms with finger-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have the faintest scent that smells like baby powder.
In late autumn large cuboid fruits ripen. The clammy beige skin is thin and inedible, and the very soft sky blue flesh is savoury and powdery. The orange seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.
