Spiceberry Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 18 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, wavy trunk covered in cracked, black bark, and inside, the dense wood is black with white speckles.

The excessive amount of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with handfuls of miniature, 7 pointed leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are washed-out blue at the bottom and pink with copper splotches at the top.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of tiny, violet blossoms with many layers of petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like cinnamon.

In mid-summer it produces , asymmetrical fruit. The crispy beige skin is thin and sweet, and the slightly crunchy intense yellow flesh is spicy and dry. The orange seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
