Thornsilk
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This short caudiciform grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall. The needle-like stem is lime green, and is covered in sharp spines. The bulbous, pastel yellow trunk can grow to as much as 9 feet (2.7 meters) in diameter. Its pink-red branches trail down across the ground.
The jagged-edged, wide leaves are hazel with crimson tips. They are durable, but easily come away when pulled.
It is very slow growing, taking 35 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with solid sky blue petals decorated with copper dots and a lime central disk, grow at the top, reappearing after 9 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 40 petals. It has no scent.
The caudiciform's skin is nearly impenetrable, the lilac flesh is rough, and the bold blue sap is thin.
