Coniapple Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 57 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in hard, cracked, brown and grey bark, and inside, the hard wood is burgundy-brown.

The branches are very short and slender and are covered with copious amounts of huge, spear shaped leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are dark brown on the edges and blue at the center.

In early spring, it produces dozens of tiny, crimson blossoms with 3 kidney-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like alcohol.

In early summer it produces small, broad, flat fruit. The fuzzy caramel skin is thin and edible when boiled; it is bitter and salty, and the slightly crunchy pink flesh is sweet and syrupy. The pastel yellow seeds are tiny and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It is very resistant to fire damage.
