Golden Spine Succulent
Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)This modest-sized leaf succulent grows up to 27 feet (8.2 meters) tall. The asymmetrical stem is orange-yellow, and is covered in many rigid gold spines. The serrated-edged, slender, pointed leaves are beige on the sides and pale green at the center. Copious amounts of them grow from the base in alternating layers of 3, then 6, then 9, and so on. The leaves are rigid, but detach easily.
It is quick growing, taking 10 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with solid indigo petals and a black central disk grows at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of 12 petals in raised layers. It has a powerful scent that smells like perfume.
The leaf succulent's skin is tough, the caramel flesh is rough, and the yellow sap is thin and can cause blindness if consumed.
