Copper Trumpet Flower

Flower type: Perennial (Evergreen - keeps its leaves all year round)

This short flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its copper stem is very thin, and the small, slate and yellow-green leaves are long, narrow with ripped edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Each stem splits 6 to 12 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 1 cm (0.4 inches) wide, with petals that are generally hazel; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of 5 tightly layered, narrow petals. They detach easily.

It has a faint scent that smells like skunk spray, and it has a fair amount of pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to bees.

It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
