Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its yellow-green stems grow in bunches of 8 and are very thin and straight, and the huge, gray-green leaves are thin with toothed edges. The leaves alternate on the stem.

2 to 8 tiny flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 23 cm (9.1 inches) wide, with white petals and a yellow center. The flower head is largely flat with 49 widely spaced round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like cigarette smoke, and it has an average amount of pollen. It is a self-pollinator.


It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
