Clinging Copperflower

Flower type: Annual (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This small flower grows up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. Its yellow-green stem is very thin, and the tiny, copper leaves are light orange on the underside and are broad, flat with ripped edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Each stem splits 3 to 5 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 17 cm (6.7 inches) wide, with olive petals on the lower layer and hazel petals decorated with cyan dots on the inner layer. The central disk is peach. The flower head is shaped like a bowl with 12 raised, round-tipped petals. They are hardy.

It has a faint scent that smells like mint, and it has lots of pollen; it can can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.

It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
