Orange Oasis

This small flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its light brown stem is very thick, and the large, bold orange leaves are wispy with serrated edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

5 to 9 tiny flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 20 cm (7.9 inches) wide, with crimson petals on the lower layer and amber petals decorated with amber dots on the inner layer. The central disk is red. The flower head is largely flat with 24 widely spaced narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has a strong scent that smells like onion, and it has a fair amount of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.
