Turquoise Dotted Hazel
Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This average-sized flower grows up to 2.0 feet (61 cm) tall. Its emerald stem is very thin, and the small, silver leaves are light grey on the underside and are slender, pointed with rounded edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.
Two small flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 44 cm (17.3 inches) wide, with solid hazel petals decorated with turquoise dots and a black central disk. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 40 petals. They fall easily.
It has a fairly strong scent that smells like wet dog, and it has a fair amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
