This turquoise moss is commonly found growing in small clumps In heathlands.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. It forms in small clumps, and is overwhelmingly durable.
When mature, emerald shield-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release thousands of spores; it can cause severe allergic reactions.

It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
It can absorb up to 8 times its own weight in water.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
