Breadbloom Shrubs

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 61 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many thick, straight stems covered in cracked, black bark, and the wood inside is pine-coloured.

The branches are short and thick with dozens of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of small, asymmetrical, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are yellow on the edges and gold at the center, sturdy and soft.

In late spring it produces hundreds of medium-sized, aquamarine blossoms with needle-like petals. They are hardy and have the faintest scent that smells like freshly baked bread.

In late autumn tiny long, straight fruits ripen. The rough cyan skin is tough and inedible, and the crunchy sky blue flesh is sweet and syrupy. The grey seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.
