Burgundy Willow

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 14 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has several flexible, wavy stems covered in thin, waxy, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is burgundy.

The branches trail down to the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of large, finger-like, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are slate and beige, resistant and crispy.

In late summer it produces thousands of giant, sky blue blossoms with oblong petals. They fall easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like pot-purri.

In late autumn tiny fan-like fruits ripen. The rubbery hazel skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft light brown flesh is sweet and powdery. The cream seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

It can survive a very long time without water.
A particular bird species likes to nest in it.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
