Firebloom

This huge flower grows up to 7.8 feet (2.4 meters) tall. Its brown stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 8 and are very thick and straight, and split into numerous branching stems halfway up, and the tiny, yellow-green leaves are shield-shaped with serrated edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

2 to 7 giant flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 40 cm (15.7 inches) wide, with solid intense orange petals decorated with cream dots and a lilac central disk. The flower head is shaped like a cube with 54 widely spaced, narrow petals. They fall easily.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like bonfire smoke, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.
