Waterberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 82 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in thick, smooth, brown-green bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is black with white speckles.

The numerous branches trail down to the ground and are covered with small amounts of small, finger-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are gold and bronze.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of tiny, pink blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a soft scent that smells like pine needles.

In early autumn it produces , wide fruit. The clammy red skin is stretchy and sour, and the soft lilac flesh is spicy and syrupy. The caramel seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
