Lilac Spine Caudiciform

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This big caudiciform grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall. The perforated stem is lilac, and is covered in thousands of fine, cream, hair-like spines. The crooked, gentle red trunk can grow to as much as 14 feet (4.3 meters) in diameter at the top. Its burgundy branches are short, thin and wispy and start growing at the base the stem.

The small bunches of smooth-edged, stiff, pointed leaves are blue on the edges and cream at the center. They are durable, but take some effort to detach.

It is quick growing, taking 9 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with each petal a slightly different shade of vibrant green grow at the top, reappearing once every 4 years. The flower head is largely flat with dozens of raised narrow petals. It has a mildly strong scent that smells like cheap aftershave.

The caudiciform's skin is delicate, the red flesh is rough, and the pink sap is thin.

The sap is magenta.
All parts of the caudiciform are edible.
