Waterstem Bluefruit
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 17 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a wide, curved trunk covered in delicate, ridged, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the dense wood is dark brown.
The branches are long and thick and are covered with sparse amounts of miniature, thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are violet and bold green.
In early spring, it produces dozens of medium-sized, sky blue blossoms with fan-like petals. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like sweat.
In late autumn it produces large, wide fruit. The sticky caramel skin is thick and spicy and salty, and the very soft sky blue flesh is sour and very dry. The red seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.
The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
