Clinging Peachfern

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 41 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, curved trunk covered in silky, brown-green bark, and inside, the very dense wood is burgundy-brown.

The small bunches of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of small, thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are peach and light brown.

In early spring, it produces lots of medium-sized, hazel blossoms with 4 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like warm milk.

In early summer it produces small, long, straight fruit. The rubbery brown skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy peach flesh is bitter and dry. The light brown seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
