Thornspire

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. The perforated stem is gray-green, and is covered in handfuls of flexible purple spines. The stumpy, black trunk can grow to as much as 4 feet (1.2 meters) in diameter. Its ashy blue branches trail down across the ground.

The smooth-edged, fan-like leaves are found in azure, aquamarine and orange varieties. They are tough, but easily come away when pulled.

It is very slow growing, taking 42 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are copper on the underside and washed-out yellow on the top grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 48 curved petals. It has an intense scent that smells like sweat.

The caudiciform's skin is extremely thick, the pink flesh is sticky, and the magenta sap is thin.

It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
