Waterstem Rose
Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its stem)This short flower grows up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. Its yellow-green stems grow in bunches of 7 and are thick with a curved tip, and the huge, pink-red leaves are long, tapering with rounded edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.
Two small flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of slate. The flower head is made up of many petals in raised layers. They detach easily.
It has the faintest scent that smells like vomit, and it has lots of pollen,but it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.
It makes excellent hedges.
