Bluesap Tree

This giant fruit tree grows up to 47 feet (14.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 16 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, curved trunk covered in ridged, black bark, and inside, the soft wood is dark brown.

The numerous branches are short and thick and are covered with large amounts of large, circular leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are either dull purple, or sky blue with copper patches.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of large, cyan blossoms with shield-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like burning wood.

In early autumn it produces tiny, perforated fruit. The smooth dark yellow skin is thin and sweet and sour, and the very soft sky blue flesh is salty and syrupy. The white seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
