Clinging Indigo Vine

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This large shrub grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 177 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several branched, wavy stems covered in hard, waxy, silver bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches are very short and thin with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of huge, asymmetrical, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of blue or indigo that gradient shifts to white at the top, hardy and rough.

In mid-summer it produces large amounts of tiny, lilac blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a soft scent that smells like damp.

In late winter tiny C-shaped fruits ripen. The rough faded red skin is thin and bitter and salty, and the slightly crunchy sky blue flesh is sour and very juicy. The caramel seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
