Blackthorn Blueberry
Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This enormous shrub grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for around 19 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has dozens of slender, straight stems covered in wrinkled, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is black.
The branches are short stubs with thousands of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of huge, needle-like, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are found in pale yellow and indigo varieties, resistant and smooth.
In late spring it produces dozens of small, violet blossoms with spear shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a weak scent that smells like old books.
In late winter tiny wide fruits ripen. The leathery turquoise skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft caramel flesh is sweet and dry. The olive seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.
