Bloodfire Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 19 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, curved trunk covered in ridged, brown-green bark, and inside, the hard wood is yellow-brown.

The tangled mess of branches are very short and thin and are covered with copious amounts of miniature, thick leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are solid black with silver zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces a handful of small, subtle blue blossoms with circular petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like candle wax.

In mid-autumn it produces small, wide fruit. The rubbery blood red skin is stretchy and sour, and the crunchy blood red flesh is spicy and juicy. The light grey seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
