Turquoise Pepperfruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)This large fruit tree grows up to 35 feet (10.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 53 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a knobbly, slanted trunk covered in thick, wrinkled, black bark, and inside, the very light wood is gray.
The branches are short and thick and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, spear shaped leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of silver that gradient shifts to olive at the top.
In early spring, it produces thousands of giant, turquoise blossoms with circular petals. They are very delicate and have a fairly strong scent that smells like pepper.
In late summer it produces very large, 2 pointed fruit. The leathery turquoise skin is thick and overwhelmingly savoury, and the very soft magenta flesh is overwhelmingly savoury and syrupy. The lime seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.
The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
It is very resistant to fire damage.
It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
