Coniapple Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 39 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, curved trunk covered in delicate, wrinkled, light gray bark, and inside, the flexible wood is burgundy-brown.

The branches are short and thick and are covered with thick bunches of giant, wide leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are ashy red and deep blue.

In early spring, it produces many balls of medium-sized, muted orange blossoms with needle-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like a damp log.

In late summer it produces tiny, needle-like fruit. The hairy silver skin is thick and inedible, and the slightly crunchy magenta flesh is salty and sour and sticky. The dark brown seeds are large and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.

Once on fire, it burns very quickly.
