Spinebloom
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This small caudiciform grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall. The finger-like stem is gray-green, and is covered in thick bunches of fine, beige, hair-like spines. It has a slanted, slender, dark grey trunk atop a slender tripod of smooth, exposed roots. The branches are very thick and moss green and are very short and thin.
The serrated-edged, thin leaves are a shade of lime green that gradient shifts to cream at the top. They are rigid, but easily come away when pulled.
It is slow growing, taking 49 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with petals that are black on the underside and green on the top grows at the top, reappearing after 8 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of 6 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like coffee.
The caudiciform's skin is tough, the magenta flesh is sticky, and the purple sap is thin.
It is difficult to cut through.
It grows well in the sun and full shade.
