Aurora Limefruit

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This large fruit tree grows up to 37 feet (11.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 82 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a sturdy, crooked trunk covered in thin, rough, burgundy bark, and inside, the very hard wood is light brown.

The branches are long and thin and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, pleated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are silver on the edges and lime at the center.

In early spring, it produces a handful of medium-sized, lime blossoms with perforated petals. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like warm cookies.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, long, tapering fruit. The crispy lime skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is savoury, and the very soft subtle blue flesh is bitter and very dry. The intense red seeds are large and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
