Silverclaw

Shrub type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 48 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several sturdy, curved stems covered in ridged, silver and white bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches trail down towards the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of large, finger-like, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are either slate, or subtle blue with bold red edges, tough and rough.

In early summer it produces many small, dark brown blossoms with circular petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like lavender.

In midwinter triangular fruits ripen. The crispy turquoise skin is thin and sweet and savoury, and the crunchy subtle blue flesh is sweet and oily. The deep orange seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The bark is frequently covered in moss.
