Ashalin Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 19 feet (5.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 43 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, angular trunk covered in delicate, ridged, dark green bark, and inside, the flexible wood is dark brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of tiny, long, narrow leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid bright red or gold, with green lines.

In early spring, it produces several small, indigo blossoms with needle-like petals. They are sturdy and have a powerful scent that smells like ashes.

In mid-summer it produces , broad, flat fruit. The fuzzy drab blue skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is very bitter, and the crunchy bold orange flesh is sweet and very dry. The slate seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.

It is extremely resistant to fire damage.
It only grows on the most fertile lands.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
