Crescent Moss

This gray-green moss is commonly found growing in giant clumps In damp forests, In rainy mountain ranges, and On rotten logs.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches and they are slow to spread and grow, and is overwhelmingly strong; it can easily endure flooding and draughts.
When mature, emerald crescent-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release thousands of spores.
