Thirsty Needlefruit

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 67 feet (20.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in very thick, ridged, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the very hard wood is burgundy.

The excessive amount of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of giant, needle-like leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of white that gradient shifts to bold orange at the top.

In early spring, it produces many bunches of giant, orange blossoms with slender, pointed petals. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like new carpet.

In mid-summer it produces , asymmetrical fruit. The crispy pale green skin is stretchy and salty, and the crunchy violet flesh is very bitter and dry. The bright green seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is often home to a particular bird species.
