Crimson

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.3 feet (41 cm) tall. Its orange stem is very thin, and the tiny, orange-yellow leaves are fan-like with serrated edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the stem.

5 to 10 medium-sized flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 39 cm (15.4 inches) wide, with petals that are blood red at the sides and blue at the center. The flower head is made up of 6 petals in raised layers. They are very delicate.

It has a strong scent that smells like pineapple, and it has very little pollen. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by a variety of insects.

It comes in 4 varieties, each with a different leaf colour.
