Burgundy Fruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, wonky trunk covered in thin, knobbly, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is burgundy.

The large clumps of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with thick bunches of giant, stiff, pointed leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are found in pink, azure and magenta varieties.

In early spring, it produces several tiny, washed-out orange blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like fermented fruit.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, needle-like fruit. The soft hazel skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is salty, and the very soft crimson flesh is bitter and savoury and very dry. The grey seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
