Redwood Fern

Shrub type: Coniferous (Sheds its leaves in winter)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 20 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has several very thick, straight stems covered in wrinkled, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is yellow-brown.

The branches are long and thick with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of small, very thick, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are lime and florescent red, hardy and fuzzy.

In mid-spring it produces lots of medium-sized, blue flowers with slender, pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have no scent.

It is suitable for making paper
The leaves have medicinal properties.
It can survive a long time without water.
