Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 30 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wonky trunk covered in ridged, silver and white bark, and inside, the very dense wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are very long and thick and are covered with very large amounts of large, 2 pointed leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are solid subtle red with bright purple lines.

In early spring, it produces dozens of small, pink blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a weak scent that smells like coconut.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, oval fruit. The fuzzy slate skin is delicate and sweet and spicy, and the soft vibrant orange flesh is bitter and sticky. The slate seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
