Spiralvine

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 17 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, slanted trunk covered in waxy, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is copper-coloured.

The small clumps of branches are short and thick and are covered with thick bunches of giant, stiff, pointed leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are solid azure or purple, with dark brown lines.

In early spring, it produces many bunches of medium-sized, hazel blossoms with slender, pointed petals. They are sturdy and have an intense scent that smells like roses.

In late autumn it produces tiny, fan-like fruit. The waxy violet skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is bitter, and the crunchy brown flesh is savoury and syrupy. The beige seeds are tiny and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
