Crimson Shield Moss

This red moss is commonly found growing in small clumps In marshes, and In damp forests.
It is short, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches and they spread and grow quickly, and is slightly tough; it is very difficult to kill.
When mature, emerald shield-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-summer to release thousands of spores.

It is suitable for making paper
It is extremely resistant to fire damage.
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
