Spikewoody

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 44 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a narrow, slanted trunk covered in delicate, waxy, silver and white bark, and inside, the light wood is silver.

The small clumps of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with small amounts of giant, asymmetrical leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are brown on the sides and dark brown at the center.

In early spring, it produces several medium-sized, olive blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a powerful scent that smells like new books.

In mid-autumn it produces small, long, narrow fruit. The leathery white skin is thin and bitter and salty, and the very soft brown flesh is spicy and sticky. The vibrant orange seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.

The stems are covered in large spikes.
