Thickstem Ashpine
Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 22 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has many long and flexible, wonky stems covered in very thick, silky, light brown bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.
The branches trail down across the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of giant, 4 pointed, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are lime and magenta, tough and crispy.
It produces dozens of tiny, caramel flowers with needle-like petals. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like ashes. In late spring it forms smallblood red, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.
The leaves have medicinal properties.
It commonly grows in large patches.
