Turquoiseberry

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 24 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has many branched, straight stems covered in waxy, light gray bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.

The branches are very short, thin and wispy with dozens of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of huge, finger-like, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are green with bright green tips, tough and smooth.

In late summer it produces many bunches of large, turquoise blossoms with long, tapering petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like misty mornings.

In late winter small long, straight fruits ripen. The smooth purple skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is spicy and savoury, and the soft vibrant orange flesh is sweet and sticky. The gold seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

It is suitable for making paper
