Copperberry

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 48 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, crooked trunk covered in thick, rough, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is copper-coloured.

The large clumps of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of giant, circular leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are light brown on the sides and hazel at the center.

In early spring, it produces balls of large, slate blossoms with needle-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like paint.

In mid-autumn it produces small, circular fruit. The smooth amber skin is peel-able and bitter, and the soft light brown flesh is sweet and spicy and powdery. The olive seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
