Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 188 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has numerous slender, curved stems covered in delicate, knobbly, silver bark, and the wood inside is mahogany-coloured.

The branches trail down to the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of miniature, thin, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are sky blue and black, flimsy and fuzzy.

It produces many bunches of small, azure flowers with kidney-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like lemon. In late summer it forms smallpastel orange, winged seeds that float and land far away.


It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
