Red Petal Flower

This big flower grows up to 4.5 feet (1.4 meters) tall. Its lime green stem is wispy and splits into several branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the huge, red leaves are thin with toothed edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the stem.

Each stem splits 6 to 8 times; a single small flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 45 cm (17.7 inches) wide, with brown petals and a black central disk. The flower head is largely flat with many widely spaced round-tipped petals. They detach easily.

It has a weak scent that smells like rotten eggs, and it has very little pollen. It is pollinated by the wind.
