Twistvine Oak

This average-sized tree grows up to 53 meters (173.9 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 646 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, angular trunk covered in hard, waxy, brown-green bark, and inside, the hard wood is copper-coloured.

The small handful of branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with small bunches of fuzzy, large, needle-like leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are generally crimson.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of tiny, amber blossoms with finger-like petals. They are very delicate and have a fairly strong scent that smells like cigarette smoke.

In late summer it forms medium-sized, caramel seed pods.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
