Indigo

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 57 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, twisting trunk covered in delicate, ridged, black bark, and inside, the soft wood is black with white speckles.

The numerous branches trail down to the ground and are covered with small bunches of large, very thick leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are found in light brown and indigo varieties.

In early spring, it produces several small, silver blossoms with oblong shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like a woman.

In early summer it produces tiny, asymmetrical fruit. The hairy bright red skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy brown flesh is sweet and powdery. The beige seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
